Former aide to Teresa Kok and 'Tan Sri' expected to be charged on May 11

PETALING JAYA: A former officer to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok is expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Monday (May 11) over a corruption case linked to the Mesra Rakyat Project (PMR).

According to sources, the man is scheduled to be charged at about 8.30am.

Bernama also reported the MACC as saying that an Islamic finance and investment expert with a "Tan Sri" title and another company director are expected to be charged at the same court on Monday morning.

It was previously reported that two individuals, including the former officer, were remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of soliciting and receiving about RM500,000 in bribes.

The money was believed to have been an inducement for assisting in the approval of allocations for the Mesra Rakyat Project.

Sources said the two male suspects, both in their 30s, were arrested at about 9.30pm on March 5 last year when they turned up to give statements at the MACC headquarters.

They were suspected of committing the offences in 2024 in return for helping to approve applications for the Mesra Rakyat project worth about RM1.5mil.

The projects are believed to have involved the supply of interactive smart boards to several schools around Kuala Lumpur.
