KUALA LUMPUR: Nearly 80kg of methamphetamine and 30kg of ecstasy worth about RM8.3mil were seized in a raid in Brickfields.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the operation, conducted by the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), led to the arrest of a 36-year-old foreign man.
He said following the arrest, police conducted a follow-up raid at a related premises in Kuchai Lama, where they discovered a quantity of drugs believed to have been intended for local distribution.
“The suspect, together with several other individuals who are still at large, is believed to have been involved in the activity since early this year.
“The premises raided are believed to have been used to store and distribute drugs,” he told a press conference on Wednesday (Aug 19).
Comm Fadil said the suspect is a Vietnamese national but was in possession of a Canadian passport, adding that police were still investigating to confirm his nationality.
He said the suspect had no previous criminal or drug-related record and had been remanded for 11 days until Aug 20.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Police also seized a Proton X50 worth about RM85,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
Comm Fadil said investigations were ongoing to identify the suppliers, intermediaries and other parties linked to the drug distribution network.
“The supplier is believed to be from outside Kuala Lumpur, and intelligence operations are being conducted to identify the supplier and other individuals involved,” he said.
