Special day filled with home-cooked food for the children

IPOH: M. Valliamah has no qualms about cooking for her children, even on Mothers Day.

The 67-year-old former clerk said her three children love her cooking and she happily obliges whenever they came back home.

“My eldest son is in Johor Baru and my second son is in Cyberjaya, while my daughter works in Taiping. She comes home once in a fortnight,” she said at her home in Desa Lang Indah here.

Valliamah added that whenever her children come home, they will ask her to cook their favourite meals.

“I know they miss my cooking, so I gladly oblige. They love my chicken varuval, sambal ikan bilis, and mutton and dry fish curry,” said the grandmother of two.

Valliamah said her children will send their best wishes to her if they cannot come home on Mothers Day.

“They have work commitments and I understand. Last year, they sent me gifts,” she said, adding that she last celebrated the occasion with her children two years ago.

“I will still cook for my husband on Sunday,” Valliamah said.

Personal assistant Ashley Chiam, 41, said mothers deserve a break on the special occasion.

The mother of two said most would like to relax and have a simple meal outside with the family.

“On any other day, most mothers don’t mind cooking and looking after the needs of their children.

“But on Mothers Day, many of us will prefer to eat out,” she added.
