SUNGAI PETANI: A trader, who is already serving a 14-year jail sentence for assaulting his then pregnant wife and leaving her in a coma, has been brought back to court to face fresh charges involving another wife.

Rosmaini Abdul Raof, 43, pleaded not guilty after two charges were read before Sessions Court judge Najwa Che Mat here yesterday.

According to the first charge, he is accused of causing grievous hurt to Nurfitri Moktar, 39, using a plastic chair and rubber hose at a house in Persiaran Amanjaya 10, Bandar Amanjaya, at 5pm on March 29.

For the second charge, he is accused of committing a similar offence against the same woman using a clothes hanger and curtain rod at the same address at 9am on April 23.

Both charges were framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, along with a fine or caning upon conviction, Bernama reported.

Section 326A of the Penal Code further provides that if the offence is committed against a spouse, the offender may face up to double the maximum imprisonment term under Section 326, in addition to any other punishment.

The court set June 16 for mention. No bail was offered as Rosmaini is currently serving his sentence at Kajang Prison.

On May 4, he was convicted of intentionally causing grievous hurt to his ex-wife Jahidah Nordin, 48, at an apartment in Johor Baru in 2021.

The attack left the former wildlife enforcement officer in a coma.
