KUALA LUMPUR: Thirteen foreigners were detained following a raid in Cyberjaya.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the integrated enforcement operation was carried out at Menara Paragon in Cyberjaya at about 9pm on Wednesday (May 6,) following public complaints and a week-long intelligence gathering exercise.
"We inspected 16 premises, including food outlets, kiosks, sales centres and other business premises suspected of employing and harbouring undocumented migrants.
"A total of 105 foreign nationals and 89 Malaysians were screened," he said in a statement.
A total of 13 foreigners aged between 26 and 35 were detained for various immigration offences, he added.
"Those detained comprised those from Sudan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar and Indonesia.
"A local individual was also issued a Form 29 witness summons to assist in investigations," he said.
All detained individuals have been placed at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation and action, Zakaria said.
"We will not compromise on taking action against foreigners who overstay, misuse their passes or reside illegally in the country.
"Stern action would be taken against employers and individuals found harbouring undocumented migrants," he warned.
A total of 83 Immigration enforcement officers along with 15 officers from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, were deployed in the operation.
