RoS temporarily dissolves MTUC over failure to submit required information

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has been temporarily dissolved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) following its failure to submit the required documentation.

Selangor RoS director Nurul Azhar Husin confirmed the matter, stating that the umbrella body for trade unions is currently classified as "temporarily dissolved" under the Societies Act 1966.

"The current status of the Malaysian Trades Union Congress is temporarily dissolved under the provisions of Section 14(5) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832)," he said when contacted on Thursday (May 7).

Nurul Azhar explained that the suspension was enforced after the MTUC failed to adhere to a statutory notice issued by the department.

"This action was taken following the organisation's failure to comply with a Notice under Section 14(2) of Act 832 by not submitting some of the required information," he added.

In a letter sighted by The Star, it was mentioned that the MTUC failed to hand over necessary financial documents, which included two copies of its fully audited statements of receipts and payments, as well as its balance sheets for the financial years ending 2020 to 2025.

The RoS also mentioned that MTUC failed to provide two copies of financial records detailing any funds, properties, benefits, or profits received from foreign sources.

This includes any financial contributions received from individuals ordinarily resident outside Malaysia, as well as foreign organisations, authorities, or government agencies, for the same 2020 to 2025 period.

The Star has contacted the MTUC over the matter.
