MACC tracks another US$2bil in 1MDB funds

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is tracking another US$2bil (RM7.9bil) linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal and will recover the funds by the end of 2027.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the money is believed to be tied to several individuals who still hold assets and funds linked to the scandal abroad.

“We are looking to recover another US$2bil, and this will be another hurdle,” he told a press conference on Wednesday (May 6).

Azam said the commission’s recovery of RM31.3bil, or 74.5% of the RM42bil misappropriated from 1MDB, was a significant achievement.

“Our commitment to addressing the challenges in the 1MDB case since July 3, 2015, is historic.

“About 10 years have passed since the case was brought to court against those involved. Now the focus is on recovering the money,” he said.
