Aminuddin cancels weekly post-exco media conference, fuels state legislative assembly dissolution rumours

SEREMBAN: Speculation surrounding the imminent dissolution of the state legislative assembly intensified after Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (pic) abruptly cancelled his scheduled post-exco media conference.

The weekly press conference, originally slated for 1.30pm on Wednesday (June 3) at Wisma Negri was called off at the eleventh hour.

The Mentri Besar’s press secretary, Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Shah, said the media conference was cancelled because Aminuddin had to attend to "important and urgent" matters.

The sudden cancellation fuelled ongoing rumours that the state government is preparing to dissolve the assembly to make way for the state election.

Aminuddin also declined to speak to reporters when met at the lobby.

Another aide merely said: "Wait for the PC."

Earlier, Aminuddin was granted an almost two-hour audience by Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at Istana Hinggap here.

This was a routine meeting to present updates on developments in the state before Aminuddin chairs the state exco meeting.

He was seen entering the palace at about 9am, and left at 10.50am.

He then returned to Wisma Negri to chair the exco meeting, which ended around 12.30pm.

On Tuesday (June 2), Pakatan Harapan assemblymen and state party leaders gathered for a special meeting at the Mentri Besar's official residence here following talk of the impending dissolution.

Fourteen of the 17 Pakatan assemblymen were seen arriving separately from 9.30am for the meeting, believed to discuss local political developments following the dissolution of the Johor assembly on Monday (June 1), among other matters.

The last state polls were held on Aug 12, 2023.

Pakatan won 17 seats, followed by Barisan Nasional (14) and Perikatan Nasional (five).
