PETALING JAYA: Muda has questioned the timing of the Housing and Local Government Ministry's announcement of a RM216.44mil allocation for housing development and community welfare in Johor, asking why such announcements tend to coincide with elections.
"Does the allocation get disbursed only when there is an election?" said party president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz in an Instagram post on Friday (June 26).
Amira was referring to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming's announcement on Thursday (June 25) that RM216.44mil had been allocated to Johor under the 13th Malaysia Plan to boost housing development, public amenities and community welfare.
The allocation covers affordable housing projects, maintenance works, public amenities, community safety, solid waste management as well as urban and rural development.
"I am not against development. But the question here is why are these announcements made when state elections are around the corner?
She said voters could distinguish between genuine policy announcements and politically timed "candies".
Amira also said Nga had made similar announcements during previous by-elections, including Kuala Kubu Baharu and Sungai Bakap.
She also criticised Pakatan Harapan for resorting to tactics it had previously criticised while in the opposition.
Johor goes to the polls on July 11, with nomination set for tomorrow (June 27) and early voting on July 7.
