PETALING JAYA: A father whose eight-year-old daughter was killed in a van accident outside SK Seri Maimon in Parit Sulong, Johor, says he has forgiven the driver and urged the public not to blame him.
Ahmad Fareez Khalid, 39, told Sinar Harian that the family accepts the tragedy as fate and called for compassion, stressing that no one wanted it to happen.
“My request is that people do not get angry at the driver. If we, as parents, have already accepted it, there is no need for others to continue blaming him. Have some compassion,” he said on Wednesday (May 6).
On May 5, the victim, Nur Aini Umairah Mohd Fareez, 8, died after being struck by a van outside the school gate.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother, Asmilah Tukiran, 37, said the tragedy occurred just minutes after she was delayed in picking up her daughter.
She said she was delayed because she was attending to her youngest child, Ahmad Sufi Mohd Fareez, aged five, who had just returned from preschool around 12.30pm.
When she arrived, she found a crowd gathered and was told her daughter had been hit. She said Nur Aini usually waited inside the school compound and was unsure why she had been outside that day.
“My body went weak. I could not bring myself to look at her due to the severity of the condition,” she said tearfully.
