MELAKA: A director of a government agency linked to the construction industry and a female company manager have been remanded for five days by a Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here over suspected submission of false claims amounting close to RM15,000.
Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman issued the remand order until Saturday (May 9) following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday (May 5).
An MACC source said the two women, aged 41 and 43 years old, respectively, are believed to have submitted falsified documents related to services and supply in December, last year.
The source said the first suspect was a deputy director of a government agency linked to the construction industry at the time of the alleged offence took place before being promoted as director of another government agency this year.
“The two were also believed to have submitted three invoices for the supply of food and beverages as well as general purchases through the e-Perolehan system for the 2025 financial year, although the supplies and purchases were never carried out as stated in the claims,” the source said.
It is understood that the civil servant was detained at about 7.10pm when she arrived to give her statement at the MACC headquarters in Alai here, while the manager was arrested earlier at about 6.10pm at the same location on Monday (May 4).
Melaka MACC director Datuk Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrests when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
