KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has instructed its party machinery to be on alert for the possibility of surprise state elections in Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor following recent political developments.
Secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the decision was made after an attempt to topple the Unity Government in Negri Sembilan failed, raising the likelihood of snap polls in several states.
According to a report in Astro Awani, he said the directive was decided at the party’s monthly Central Executive Committee meeting at DAP headquarters here on Monday (May 4).
"The step is an early preparation in case the state assemblies in the three states are dissolved in the near term.
"At the same time, DAP reiterates full support for Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to continue leading the Negri Sembilan administration, and rejects any suggestion of changing the Mentri Besar at this time.
"DAP also expresses its appreciation to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir for his call for the state government to continue functioning as usual under the current administration," he said in a statement.
Loke said the party remains committed to respecting the constitutional monarchy and ensuring any related issues are handled in accordance with the Federal Constitution and state laws.
