JOHOR BARU: DAP will field three Malay and two Indian candidates among its 17 contenders in the Johor election, according to party secretary-general Anthony Loke.
The party’s line-up will comprise 12 Chinese candidates as well, with more women also set to be fielded, he said.
Loke announced yesterday that first-time candidate Mohamad Shafwan Ani, 33, will be contesting Bukit Permai in the election, while incumbent Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang is set to defend his seat.
Earlier, at a separate event, he announced that Johor DAP Youth chief Lee Wern Yiing, 30, will contest Johor Jaya, replacing Liow Cai Tung, who has represented the constituency since 2013.
Meanwhile, Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani, 38, the private secretary to Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong, will contest the Tiram seat.
On a separate matter, Loke said Pakatan Harapan has yet to decide on its candidate for Johor mentri besar should the coalition win the state election.
“The question of the Johor mentri besar will be discussed at the highest level of Pakatan. At this point, there has been no announcement,” said Loke, who is also Pakatan’s deputy chairman.
