PETALING JAYA: All 11 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia high achievers with 10As who were anxious after not receiving offers for the matriculation programme have now been given places, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Dr Wee said the students were initially left out of the intake despite scoring 10As in the 2025 examination.
"On May 1, I revealed that the MCA Youth secretariat had received 11 appeal cases from outstanding students who obtained 10As in the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia but were not offered places in the matriculation programme.
"Out of these 11 cases, five were from Johor," he said.
Dr Wee said an officer from the Education Ministry's matriculation division contacted him on Tuesday morning to request the relevant documents for the 11 students.
He said the officer later confirmed that all 11 students whose appeals were assisted by MCA Youth had been accepted into the programme.
"I would like to extend my congratulations to all 11 of these high-achieving students," he added.
Dr Wee said he was also informed that 284 candidates from the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia cohort who originally obtained eight or nine As had their results revised to 10As after a review or recheck by the Malaysian Examinations Board.
He said they were subsequently admitted into the matriculation programme.
"Following this revision, they were subsequently admitted into the matriculation programme.
"More than 300 students have successfully got their results revised to 10As by the Malaysian Examinations Board. This is totally beyond my imagination," he said in a Facebook post on Monday (May 4).
Dr Wee thanked officers from the Education Ministry's matriculation division for their help in handling the appeal cases.
"Education is the foundation of a nation and we believe that every outstanding student deserves a fair opportunity to further their studies," he said.
Previously, Dr Wee urged the government to honour its pledge that all Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia candidates scoring 10As and above would be given places in the matriculation programme if they applied, regardless of race and background.
In June last year, the Education Ministry said the Cabinet agreed that students with 10As and above, including A+, A and A-, would be granted entry into the programme.
