KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has called for Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Sdn Bhd (KPTMSB) to conduct a comprehensive review of safety and student welfare across its institutions to prevent a recurrence of violent crimes among its students.
Asyraf said the directive was aimed at ensuring any shortcomings or weaknesses within the institution are identified and addressed thoroughly.
“I have asked the KPTM management to comprehensively review safety aspects as well as student welfare.
“We need to examine whether there are any deficiencies or weaknesses at the institutional level that must be addressed so that such incidents do not happen again in the future,” he said.
Asyraf said this to reporters when met at the Mara 60th anniversary celebration here on Sunday (May 3).
He was responding to a question on assistance for the victim, a Mara student who was reportedly stabbed 61 times, saying that immediate support had been extended to the family.
“At the KPTM level, once the incident occurred, they immediately met the victim’s family and we offered any assistance needed to help with matters related to the deceased.
“The rest has been handed over to the police, as this is a criminal case,” he said.
He added that the incident came as a shock to the organisation.
“We are deeply saddened. On behalf of Mara’s management, I extend our condolences to the family. This incident is truly heartbreaking for all of us,” he said.
On Friday (May 1), media reported that Nurfisya Zulkifly, 19, was found by members of the public at about 12.30am on Thursday (April 30) in a pool of blood after being stabbed 61 times.
The college student in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, who was from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, was pronounced dead from multiple stab wounds to the chest.
Following the incident, two 19-year-old male suspects, as well as an elderly married couple, were arrested to assist investigations, with remand periods of seven and three days respectively.
