Body of missing girl found drowned at Sungai Langat

PETALING JAYA: The disappearance of a young girl feared to have drowned after she was believed to have fallen into a drain in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Kajang, three days ago has been resolved with the discovery of her body on Sunday (May 3).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Wan Syariman Wan Salleh said the body, believed to be that of the nine-year-old victim, was found about 11km from the location where she was reported to have fallen.

The victim was discovered at 12.17pm by members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA), who were conducting a search along Sungai Langat using a boat.

“The victim’s parents were present at the scene to identify the body,” he told the press on Sunday.

Earlier, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar was reported as saying that a total of 22 rescuers, including seven members of the Water Rescue Team, were involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation on Saturday (May 2).

On Friday (May 1), the victim was feared to have drowned after falling into a drain while attempting to retrieve a ball, before being swept away by strong currents.
