Perak studying effects of Middle East crisis on welfare, businesses

IPOH: The state government is surveying residents to assess the impact of the Middle East crisis, particularly on social welfare and entrepreneurship, says Perak women, family, social welfare, cooperatives and entrepreneur development committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed.

“All relevant agencies are gathering feedback to determine the appropriate actions the state can take,” she told reporters after officiating the Senior Citizens (WE Fit) programme at Ashby Road flats on Thursday (April 30).

Salbiah said the study is still at an early stage for the social sector, while initial findings have emerged for entrepreneurship. She added that the full impact may become clearer from June.

The findings will be presented to the Crisis Impact Mitigation and Crisis Impact Monitoring Special Committees.

“Based on the findings from these committees, I believe the Mentri Besar will receive comprehensive input from all parties and may announce initiatives for the people of Perak,” she added.

The study, conducted with Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR), will assess the effects of rising oil prices, global economic uncertainty and cost-of-living pressures on Perak households.
