A CASUAL disagreement over the location of a flower stall in a Kulai temple has escalated into a major issue, Makkal Osai reported.
Letchumi Ganesan, 53, who is visually impaired, has been running the flower stall for many years to support her disabled husband and three children.
The stall is located in the joint compound of the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple and the Bathrakaliamman Temple.
The temple committee had verbally asked her to remove her stall, Letchumi said, adding that she was also told that electricity to her stall would be cut.
Local residents who spoke to the daily sided with Letchumi, saying it was unfair to ask her to remove her stall, as she was supporting her family.
When contacted, the temple committee said the stall can remain for now, as they plan to seek an amicable solution after the upcoming temple festival.
A Kulai municipal councillor identified as Datuk Sivasanthiran said the temple land had recently been gazetted, resulting in changes to its management.
He added that the change could have led to the disagreement. He proposed resolving the matter through dialogue.
