No U-turn from Negri Umno

SEREMBAN: Talk of four Negri Sembilan Umno assemblymen making a U-turn to back the state Pakatan Harapan-led government has been rubbished by state party chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

Jalaluddin, who was an exco member in the previous state government before he resigned, said he had yet to get any instruction from party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the matter.

“When the 14 of us made a decision to declare a loss of confidence in Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun’s leadership, it was made en bloc.

“So this talk of four Umno assemblymen going back on their word is not true,” he said here yesterday.

He was commenting on talk that the four Umno assemblymen might support Aminudidin’s administration to ensure Pakatan secures a majority in the state legislative assembly.

If this happens, the coalition will have 21 seats in the 36-seat assembly.

The four assemblymen are likely to fill the vacancies in the state executive council line-up.

Among those touted to do so is Lenggeng assemblyman Datuk Mohd Asna Mohd Amin, who until Monday was deputy state assembly speaker.

Mohd Asna refused to comment on the matter when contacted.

However, the first-term assemblyman said he would abide by any directive from Ahmad Zahid.

“As a party man, I will from the president,” he said.

Another Umno assemblyman said to be throwing his support for Aminuddin is Seri Menanti representative Muhammad Sufian Maradzi.

Muhammad Sufian denied the talk but said he would abide by any decision from his party.

The state Barisan Nasional withdrew support for Aminuddin’s government on Monday.

Negri Sembilan Umno chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said all 14 Umno assemblymen in the state had lost confidence in Aminuddin’s leadership in relation to the handling of the state royal crisis.
