PETALING JAYA: Comprehensive efforts are being taken to ensure the immediate release of the 10 Malaysians aboard six of the 22 vessels intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters en route to Gaza, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Condemning the actions of the Zionist Israeli regime against the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission, Anwar said it was a clear violation of maritime law, resembling acts of piracy that tarnish universal humanitarian principles.
The Prime Minister also said the Madani administration is in contact and working closely with friendly nations to ensure the release.
“Malaysia urges all parties to act immediately and ensure that no harsh action is taken against all activists, including 10 Malaysians who are currently detained and out of contact. Their safety must be guaranteed without compromise.
“In this critical situation, compassion and humanity must take precedence over all differences, and Malaysia will continue to stand firmly in upholding these principles,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (April 30).
“The prayers of all Malaysians are with the Global Sumud Flotilla," Anwar added.
Earlier Thursday, the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) confirmed the interception by Israeli forces.
The Malaysians on board were Zainal Rashid Ahmad on board Arkham III; Osman Zolkifli and Dr Jihan Alya Mohd Nordin (Eros 1); Hazwan Hazim Dermawan, Mohd Hanafi Mohd Salim, Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman and Norhelmi Ab Ghani (Bianca BCN).
Also on board were Mohd Redzal Amzah and Muhamad Muhsin Zaidi, on Freia and Marea respectively, as well as Mohd Shamsir Mohd Isa (Esplai).
