Ulu Tiram attacker’s kin sentenced to 30 years in jail

KUALA LUMPUR: The father and brother of the Ulu Tiram police station attacker were sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment by the High Court today after pleading guilty to terrorism-related charges.

Judge Nurulhuda Nur’aini Mohamad Nor handed the 30-year term to Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 64, for spreading violent ideology, supporting terrorist acts, and possessing firearms.

He received an additional three years for possessing a book linked to a terrorist group.

His son, Radin Romyullah, 36, was also sentenced to 30 years for supporting terrorist acts, with a concurrent three-year term for possessing Islamic State materials.

With all sentences running concurrently from their arrest on May 17, 2024, both will serve a total of 30 years.

The court also sentenced Radin Imran’s wife, Rosna Jantan, 61, to four years’ imprisonment for failing to provide information on the family’s violent ideology.

However, her two daughters – Farhah Sobrina, 25, and Mariah, 21 – were discharged and acquitted after the prosecution withdrew charges against them.

Judge Nurulhuda Nur’aini said the offences were “extremely serious,” noting they directly precipitated the May 17 attack that killed Constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24.

A third officer, Cpl Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, was wounded, while the attacker, 21-year-old Radin Luqman, was killed at the scene.

Facts of the case revealed that Radin Imran frequently branded non-believers as infidels and incited hatred against the government and security forces.

The family’s activities, centred at their home in Kampung Sungai Tiram, reportedly spanned a decade, dating back to 2014.
