Specific laws needed to regulate digital marketplace, says Zahid

CYBERJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has proposed for a more comprehensive framework to cater to the fast-growing digital market.

He said a dedicated law to regulate the digital marketplace will help keep pace with the rapid growth of online trade.

“We cannot allow the digital market to move faster than the rules that govern it.

“Therefore, I would like to propose that we strengthen existing laws, and consider a more comprehensive framework — including a specific act for the digital market.

“If we can move these priorities together, I am confident that we will be able to build a more trusted consumer ecosystem,” he said at the 54th Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry Enforcement Day celebrations and the launch of the National Consumer Policy 2.0.

However, he cautioned that good policies are not measured by what was written but by what the people truly feel.
