MELAKA: Melaka DAP has quashed a proposal to introduce appointed assemblymen as part of a potential political cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional in the upcoming state election.
Melaka DAP chief Khoo Poay Tiong said there had been no discussions within the Pakatan coalition regarding such a proposal.
"There has been no discussion within Pakatan in the state concerning the proposal for nominated assemblymen.
"Melaka DAP does not support the proposal,” he said when contacted on Monday (April 27).
On Sunday (April 26), the Melaka Pakatan chairman was reported as saying that the coalition was open to forming a political cooperation with Barisan in preparation for the upcoming state polls.
Adly Zahari reportedly said the move followed a preliminary meeting with the Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as part of efforts to establish political cooperation and avoid contests that could undermine the state’s stability.
He added that several proposals had been submitted to Barisan as a basis for discussion, while acknowledging the political reality that each party seeks to maintain dominance over its respective state seats.
