Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in Melaka and Sarawak until 2pm

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain for Melaka and several parts of Sarawak, effective until 2pm on Sunday (April 26).

The weather alert covers the entire state of Melaka.

In Sarawak, the affected areas include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Sri Aman.

The warning also extends to the districts of Betong, Sarikei and Sibu (Sibu).

Residents in Mukah, specifically in Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu and Dalat, are also advised to prepare for severe weather.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 10.30am on Sunday.
