Japanese murder case suspect deported

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has deported a Japanese fugitive wanted in connection with a murder case in his home country dating back to 2018.

“He had been listed under an Interpol Red Notice,” said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar, adding that the arrest came about following a request from Japanese authorities.

The man was initially arrested by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department in Kedah for offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act and the Immigration Act.

“Further investigations found that he had altered his identity and nationality, posing as a Myanmar citizen in an attempt to evade detection,” Comm Kumar said in a statement.

He said scientific and forensic analysis confirmed the man’s actual identity through fingerprint comparison and facial recognition technology.

“DNA profiling conducted by the forensic databank division at Bukit Aman also returned a positive match with records provided by Japanese authorities.”

He said the man was charged in Alor Setar on Aug 27 last year in which the court meted out multiple prison sentences for drug-related and immigration offences.
