Three-pronged strategy to address second wave of global supply crisis, says DPM Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will focus on three key strategies to address the second wave of the global supply crisis, says Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the approach includes ensuring a sufficient supply of essential goods, extending availability through prudent management and distribution of resources, and curbing price increases through close monitoring and firm action.

He added that the government had taken early measures and will continue strengthening efforts to ensure the people remain protected as the second wave unfolds.

"This strategy is implemented to ensure continued protection for the people as the country adapts to changing global conditions.

"In facing these pressures, the government will not leave the people to bear the burden alone,” he said during a Global Supply Crisis Briefing broadcast live on local television Friday (April 24).

Fadillah said the second wave of the global supply crisis is expected to unfold gradually, with the public likely to face price adjustments for certain goods and temporary supply disruptions in the coming period.

However, he stressed that the government remains committed to minimising the impact on the people and will continue managing the changes carefully to keep the effects under control.

"The world is now entering a second wave involving disruptions to the supply of oil and gas-based goods that support various sectors and daily needs, including food packaging, consumer goods, healthcare and logistics.

"When global supply is disrupted, production becomes limited and costs rise. These effects are expected to be felt progressively in the period ahead," he said.

He added that government efforts require the support of all parties, urging the public to use resources prudently, avoid waste and prioritise essential needs.- Bernama
