Marine Police foil smuggling attempt, seize lorry with 10,000 litres of diesel in Lahad Datu

KOTA KINABALU: Marine Police foiled an attempt to smuggle out 10,000 litres of subsidised diesel during Ops Tiris in Lahad Datu district on Sabah's east coast.

A local man was arrested, and a tanker lorry was seized during the operation at Jalan Paris 3 on Thursday (April 23).

Sabah Region Four Marine Police commander Asst Comm Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said they intercepted the vehicle after monitoring its activity.

"Initial checks revealed that the tanker did not carry any official stickers from authorised depots which raised our team's suspicions.

"The driver failed to produce any delivery documents to verify the destination of the diesel being transported," he said on Friday (April 24).

ACP Ahmad Amri said the tanker was found to contain about 10,000 litres of diesel, which police believe was about to be smuggled to a neighbouring country.

The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM51,200 based on current fuel prices.

"The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961," he said.
