KOTA KINABALU: Petronas has extended contributions to victims of the recent fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, which destroyed around 1,000 houses and left 9,007 people homeless.
With assistance mobilised through various state agencies, Petronas said it prepared essential supply packages for distribution through the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS).
Each package includes bottled drinking water, warm blankets, bath towels, toiletries, sanitary pads, basic cutlery sets, baby wipes, and garbage bags.
General Manager of Petronas Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab, presented the contribution to Secretary of the State Home Affairs and Research Office, Chief Minister’s Department, Datuk Awang Shahminan Awang Sahari, during a handover ceremony at the Sabah Social Welfare Department’s depot here on Thursday (April 23).
“We hope these supplies can help ease the burden for families going through a difficult time. We are working closely with the relevant agencies to ensure the assistance reaches those who need it most,” said Siti Ayu.
Earlier, a symbolic presentation was held with MPS President Datuk Walter Kenson. Also present was Social Welfare Department Deputy Director of Operations, Asnah Kasim.
Last year, Petronas contributed approximately RM1.1mil towards disaster relief efforts across Sabah.
To date this year, the company has contributed RM398,000 towards similar efforts in the state.
