Nearly 4,000 join Umno via new online portal

PETALING JAYA: Umno has seen close to 4,000 people signing up as new members within a day of rolling out its online membership registration dashboard, says party secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said Umno received 3,716 new applications shortly after the system went live yesterday, with the majority of registrants being youths.

He said that he reviewed the membership dashboard system yesterday morning, taking the time to assess and approve each application.

He described the process as “tiring but exciting”, adding that the rapid uptake reflects renewed interest among younger Malaysians in the party.

In a statement yesterday, Asyraf Wajdi said the digital initiative is part of Umno’s broader efforts to modernise its operations and improve accessibility for prospective members.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a Facebook post, called on the public, especially youths, to join Umno to continue the nation’s legacy and rebuild the party’s strength.

“The online membership registration is open. God-willing, the process is now easier and faster.

“I invite more people, particularly young people, to join Umno.

“We want you. Let us come together under the Rumah Bangsa initiative,” he said.
