IPOH: Perak executive council member Loh Sze Yee has dismissed claims that he frequently travels to China, clarifying that travelling abroad is the nature of his responsibilities.

“It is a misconception that I frequently go to China.

“It just so happens that I handle two portfolios (tourism and investment), and both require me to travel,” he said during the state assembly sitting on Tuesday (April 21).

This was in response to a supplementary question by Mohd Hafez Sabri (PN-Manjoi), who had raised questions over Loh’s frequent trips to China and asked about the tangible outcomes, including investment projections and strategic plans, to elevate Perak’s tourism, investment and arts sectors internationally.

Loh said his overseas engagements were not limited to China and that promotional efforts had also been carried out in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

He also said that while travel is necessary for his duties, he does not particularly enjoy it, as work tends to accumulate during his absence.

“Each time I return from an overseas trip, there will be a pile of documents waiting on my desk,” he said.
