Kedah cop who allegedly stepped on suspect's head placed on desk duties

KULIM: A policeman who allegedly stepped on a suspect's head after an arrest has been placed on desk duties pending an investigation.

Kulim deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng said the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) has been instructed to conduct an investigation into the officer involved.

"The officer involved has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation," he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 21).

Meanwhile, he said the suspect had been remanded for three days until Thursday.

On Monday (April 20), a video went viral showing a man being dragged off his motorcycle before a policeman stomped on his head.

The 32-year-old suspect, who was detained on Jalan Sungai Ular near here, had resisted arrest by kicking a police officer's motorcycle before fleeing.

He later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Police found two packets believed to contain ketum juice on the suspect's motorcycle.

The suspect, who has a criminal record, is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
