Parents hail Selangor’s free breakfast scheme

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government’s initiative to provide free breakfast to students in the state through the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package will not only ease the burden on parents but also support children’s development amid global economic pressures.

Most parents have welcomed the initiative as a positive step to help ease their burden and support their children’s learning needs.

Private sector worker Siti Shamila Che Zahari, 41, said the initiative would ease the burden of parents, especially those in the B40 group, in ensuring their children receive balanced nutrition.

The mother of one added that the programme would be particularly helpful for parents who leave for work early in the morning, as it reduces time constraints in preparing a nutritious breakfast at home.

“I agree that if this initiative is implemented, it can ease the burden of vulnerable groups, and children will also be able to study well,” she said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

Another private sector employee, Siti Noor Faezah Muda, 41, said the initiative helps bridge the gap between students from different backgrounds, as everyone would have access to the same food.

She added that nutritious food is important in improving students’ cognitive development, especially for those from underprivileged families.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old housewife Hazalina Othman believes the free breakfast initiative can enhance students’ focus and concentration in class.

The Selangor government, through 12 local authorities, will provide free breakfast to students at all 873 schools to ease parents’ expenses amid global economic pressures.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance will be rolled out starting this August.
