KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry has allocated RM33.5mil to implement 94 road safety infrastructure projects across Peninsular Malaysia this year, with work expected to be completed by October.
Its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the projects covered 77 accident-prone locations under the Blackspot Programme and 17 sites under the Signalised Pedestrian Crossing Programme, or LPKSI.
He said the initiatives will benefit residents in 11 states and 36 districts, with RM27.85mil set aside for Blackspot Programme and RM5.2mil for LPKSI.
“Our approach is based on data from the analysis of the Road Accident Management System (RAMS) to ensure that every intervention implemented is accurate and effective in reducing the risk of accidents,” he said.
Nanta said this after officiating the project handover and handing over the Letters of Acceptance ceremony for the Cakna Madani programme, here on Wednesday (July 22).
He said the ministry’s data-driven approach had helped treat 342 Blackspot locations between 2021 and 2025, with a total allocation of RM118.5mil.
For LPKSI, he said 154 locations have been equipped with signalised pedestrian crossings since 2018 at a cost of RM39.79mil.
Nanta also handed over Letters of Acceptance to 32 contractors appointed to carry out Phase Two of the Blackspot programme, while expressing appreciation to contractors who completed earlier phases on time and according to specifications.
He said appointed contractors must carry out their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism to ensure the projects are completed according to schedule.
The minister added that the programme would not only improve road safety, but also support grassroots economic growth through the involvement of local contractors and job creation.
