KUALA LUMPUR: City dwellers can expect at least one green space in the capital to be gazetted each month following the formation of a Special Task Force for the Gazetting of Open and Green Areas under the Federal Territories Department.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh (pic) said that with a task force in place, the process of gazetting green spaces will be carried out more actively.
“All updates on gazetted land will also be made available online for public viewing,” she said at a press conference in Taman Desa yesterday.
Yeoh said green areas are like “gold” – precious assets that must be protected without delay.
“Today, I am announcing that a total of 45 additional green and open-air areas, covering 277,663.90 sq m, have been gazetted and permanently protected in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
“These areas are now secured as belonging to the people through the ongoing efforts of the special task force. This is equivalent to 27.76ha, or about 39 football fields, a significant addition towards ensuring city residents continue to enjoy healthy, safe and balanced living spaces,” she said.
