Meth in courier packages bound for Sabah seized, five arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 61kg of methamphetamine, meant to be smuggled to Sabah, were seized following raids in Taman Serdang Perdana and Bukit Jalil here.

Five suspects were arrested during raids conducted on Tuesday (April 14), based on information from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the syndicate would pack the drugs into small aluminium food containers before sending them to Sabah via courier services.

"We seized 60kg of methamphetamine worth RM3.05mil and detained five suspects aged between 22 and 45.

"The syndicate has been operating since March," he told a press conference on Thursday (April 16), adding that the seized drugs could have fed the habit of more than 300,000 drug abusers.

"The mastermind of the syndicate is a foreigner who has been in the country since 2014.

"He entered on a student visa but exploited forged travel documents to facilitate his movements in and out of the country," he added.
