PETALING JAYA: The Federal Territories Mufti Department has urged art practitioners, producers and broadcasters to remain sensitive to religious and cultural values, warning against works that contradict Islamic principles.
The department was responding to controversy over the local drama Madu atau Racun, which it said went against noble Islamic values and had caused public anxiety.
‘We expressed regret over the broadcast of the drama which has caused public anxiety and controversy.
“We are of the view that the inclusion of elements touching on religious sensitivities and local cultural norms, whether directly or implicitly, must be contained immediately,” said JMWP in a statement on Sept 2.
“Islam places high priority on preserving the sanctity of faith (akidah), the family institution, and moral etiquette in religious life.
“Any portrayal of lifestyle, values, or narratives that contradict Islamic teachings and eastern culture clearly conflicts with the teachings of the religion.
JMWP stressed that the arts industry and media platforms should be utilised as mediums to educate souls, build national character, and instil noble values.
“Produced works should be responsible, refrain from triggering polemics, and avoid compromising the harmony and morals of society, especially the younger generation.
