Gebeng steel factory explosion wounds four, cops investigating


KUANTAN: Four men were wounded with one suffering serious injuries when a hydraulic tank exploded at a steel factory in the Gebeng industrial area here on Thursday (April 16).

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Ashari Abu Samah said the 9.30am incident involved one local man and three foreign nationals aged between 29 and 49.

He said all of the victims were taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital by the company's ambulance for further treatment.

"Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the incident is believed to have been caused by an explosion involving industrial equipment, namely the hydraulic tank of a steel-binding machine within the premises," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, he said police are working closely with relevant parties, including the factory management as well as occupational safety and health agencies, to determine the exact cause of the incident.

He also advised the public not to speculate in ways that could disrupt investigations and to channel any information related to the incident to the police to assist in the probe. - Bernama
