Ex-convict arrested with RM69,000 worth of syabu in JB

PONTIAN: An ex-convict has admitted to acting as a transporter for methamphetamine worth RM69,080, which he obtained from a former inmate he met in prison.

Pontian OCPD Supt Hadzrat Hussein Mion said the 36-year-old local suspect, who is currently unemployed, received instructions to transport the drugs via phone calls.

“The suspect was paid RM1,000 to collect and deliver the drugs to a designated location,” he said in a statement.

Supt Hadzrat Hussein said the 1,528g of drugs were placed in a car near a restaurant at Taman Perling, Johor Baru.

The suspect then used an e-hailing service to deliver the items.

The man and a 43-year-old local female e-hailing driver were detained during Ops Tapis at the roadside of Jalan Kukup, Kampung Penerok, at 9.15pm on April 10.

“Initial investigations found the male suspect has two previous criminal and drug-related records,” said Supt Hadzrat Hussein.

He added that the methamphetamine was intended for distribution in Indonesia.

The male suspect has been remanded from April 11 to April 17 to assist with investigations.

The e-hailing driver has been released on police bail but will be called in again if necessary.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
