UMS recognised as a leader in graduate employability by survey

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has strengthened its position as a premier higher education destination after being recognised as the national leader in graduate employability under the Talentbank Graduate Employability Index, based on assessments from more than 1,200 employers across Malaysia.

This prestigious recognition reflects the high level of industry confidence in UMS graduates, particularly in terms of professional competence, readiness for the workforce, and workplace performance, UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.

He said it sends a clear message to prospective students and parents that choosing UMS is a sound investment in the future.

The achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of the university’s approach in aligning education with current industry needs, he added.

“UMS is not just about offering education, but about providing a clear pathway towards future careers. Our graduates are not only knowledgeable but also trusted by industry and ready to contribute as soon as they enter the workforce,” Prof Kasim said Sunday (April 12).

Several UMS programmes also received the Talentbank 6-Star Employer Choice recognition, including agriculture, banking, counselling, early childhood education, entrepreneurship, food science, hospitality management, marketing, social sciences, and tourism.

Kasim said that UMS continues to strengthen its industry-based education approach through workplace learning integration, strategic collaborations with industry players, and student entrepreneurship development.

These efforts, he said, not only enhance graduate employability but also open up more career opportunities nationally and internationally.

“As ‘The Brain of Borneo,’ UMS remains committed to offering a holistic learning experience that combines academic excellence, innovation, and the unique environment of Sabah,” Prof Kasim added.
