Diesel shipment bound for the Philippines does not originate from Malaysia, says Comms Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is not directly involved in the transaction of diesel shipment linked to Malaysia and the Philippines, the Communications Ministry clarifies.

“The deal was conducted solely between the Philippine government and international private companies, without the involvement of Malaysian entities,” said the ministry in a social media post on Sunday (April 12).

“Malaysia’s role was only serving as a transit and logistics point for the shipment. Acting like a stopover, not the source.

“The diesel was sourced from the global market and not supplied by PETRONAS.

The post comes amid circulating reports online, prompting a reminder to the public to verify information through official sources and avoid spreading unverified claims.

It was reported on Saturday (April 11) that about 329,000 barrels or 52.311 million litres of diesel were shipped from Malaysia to the Philippines to boost fuel supply amid global oil market uncertainty following tensions in the Middle East.

The shipment followed an earlier delivery of 142,000 barrels from Japan on March 26, in line with a directive by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr to ensure a sufficient oil supply.
