Cops bust diesel siphoning ring in Tawau, seize RM1.1mil worth of illicit fuel

KOTA KINABALU: Police busted a subsidised diesel siphoning operation in Tawau and seized 30,800 litres of fuel.

The raid also saw the seizure of three lorries worth over RM1.1mil.

Sabah marine police Region 4 said a suspect was arrested during the raid on a warehouse at Jalan Sin San on Sunday (April 12).

A marine police team conducted surveillance after receiving public tip-offs about illicit activities at the warehouse.

Officers noticed a suspicious 21-ton lorry parking adjacent to the closed premises.

The team moved in and found illegal diesel transfer activities inside.

The statement said the team found three lorries, three skid tanks, and 10 barrels being used in the operation.

About 30,800 litres of diesel were seized with a total confiscation value of RM1,165,320.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Marine police said operations will be intensified to combat misappropriation and smuggling of controlled goods.

This is to ensure national security and economic stability are preserved.
