Used car dealer fined RM7,500 for cheating customer

KUALA KRAI: A used car dealer was fined RM7,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday (April 4) after pleading guilty to cheating a customer in August last year.

Magistrate Amal Razim Alias also ordered Muhamad Azhar Muhamad Riski, 47, to serve 12 months’ imprisonment if he fails to settle the fine.

According to the alternative charge, Muhamad Azhar was accused of deceiving 37-year-old Mohd Tabliq Abdullah in the sale of a sedan, causing the victim’s wife to transfer RM37,000 in payment to his company account.

Muhamad Azhar was accused of knowing that the transaction was fraudulent and having no intention of delivering the car to the victim.

The offence occurred at a house in Kampung Budi here between Aug 11 and 18.

He was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Mazlinda Mohd Nor appeared for the prosecution, while the defendant was represented by Farazalila Fauzi from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Earlier, Farazalila requested a reduced bail, citing that her self-employed client supports his wife, three school-going children, and an elderly father aged 75.

The defendant subsequently paid the fine. — Bernama
