KUALA LUMPUR: A business rivalry is the reason behind a gang attack on a karaoke centre in Taman Shamelin, Cheras here, say police.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said a gang was hired to do conduct the attack that took place at about 1.30pm on Sunday (April 5).
"We have detained 45 locals aged from 14 to 57. Two of those detained were secondary school students," he said at a press conference here on Wednesday (April 8).
Comm Fadil said the police have seized the lorry used to ram the front gates of the premises as well as several weapons used in the attack including steel rods, wooden sticks and baseball bats.
"The outlet attacked had a valid business license," he said.
Comm Fadil said there were more suspects still at large.
"Based on the video, more than 60 individuals were involved.
"We will aggressively pursue them as violence will not be tolerated.
"We also investigating how much the suspects were paid for the attack," he said.
Comm Fadil admitted that the police were late to respond to the incident.
"We must improve on that. We also urge the public to immediately contact the police of any crimes via our hotline and other avenues," he said.
On Sunday, a large group of masked men stormed into the karaoke centre in Cheras.
A viral video showing a large group of armed men charging into the premises after a lorry rammed into the gate to force it open.
Several items within the premises were damaged during the incident.
