Saarani: No plans for snap Perak polls anytime soon

IPOH: A snap Perak state election is unlikely to be held any time soon, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Mentri Besar said the matter has not been discussed on any platforms, and it is unlikely that he would seek to dissolve the state legislative assembly in the near future.

"There are procedures to call for a state election.

"Firstly, the Mentri Besar needs to have an audience with the Perak Sultan to propose a dissolution of the state legislative assembly," he said in a press conference after presenting a mock cheque to People of Remarkable Talents (PORT) at his office here on Wednesday (April 8).

"If His Royal Highness does not agree, then the Mentri Besar is considered to have resigned.

"We still have more than a year to continue our services as entrusted to us for five years," he added.

There had been talks that Perak is being considered a "case study", with a snap state election called to see if an early general election can be held.

Separately, Saarani said some civil servants are expected to work from home (WFH) starting April 15.

He said the State Secretary is still looking into its implementation.

"The circular to implement the WFH is the same, but its implementation differs between states based on needs," he added.
