300 MySTEP hostel warden assistants appointed to boost boarding school safety

PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry has appointed 300 Malaysia Short-Term Employment Program (MySTEP) hostel warden assistants (MyPWA) to be deployed in boarding schools nationwide.

In a statement on Wednesday (April 8), Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the appointment took effect on April 1.

“The MyPWA initiative was introduced to improve the level of security in boarding schools while simultaneously helping to reduce the workload of teachers.

“MyPWAs are tasked with assisting wardens, particularly in night-time monitoring, to ensure the safety, welfare, and well-being of boarding students are continuously strengthened,” she said.

She also said that the ministry plans to expand the MyPWA initiative further, aligning it with its broader safety reform agenda across all institutions under the Education Ministry’s purview.

“This is also in line with the Malaysia Education Plan (MEP) 2026–2035, which emphasises the need for teachers to focus on teaching and learning (PdP) activities,” she added.
