Stop politicking and help save the country, PM tells Opposition

IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Opposition to stop politicking and work together towards helping the country.

Anwar said the general election would not be held soon and that now was the time to work to save the nation.

"I will not have an election in the next one to two months, be patient for a while. When the time for the elections comes, let's fight," he said.

He said this in his speech when opening the Program Madani Rakyat at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout in Meru Raya on Saturday (April 4).

"Now is the time to work, enough of politics, get up and save our country," he added.

He said with the crisis in the Middle East impacting the global economy, politics needed to be put aside.

"The UAE, among the oil producing countries, is still raising the price of oil, it is skyrocketing. This is the stark economic reality. This is not politics or a matter of political struggle," he said.

Anwar also said that all Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers had decided to cancel their overseas working trips.

He said the exception would be for those whose trips had been scheduled earlier and could not be avoided.

Anwar also called on the police and army to be vigilant, as there may be external forces looking to create unrest.

He said some could be envious of the stable economy of the country.

"So do not let us feel that we are free from all the problems. The police and the armed forces must be more prepared. Do not take lightly the security situation and crime in the country," he added.
