Cop remanded over alleged solicitation of RM20,000 bribe

ALOR SETAR: A police officer suspected of soliciting and receiving a bribe of over RM20,000 as inducement to change a charge for a traffic case has been remanded for four days beginning Tuesday (March 31).

An MACC source said the officer, in his 30s, has been remanded until April 3 following his arrest at about 12.50pm on Monday (March 30) during a raid on an eatery in Sungai Petani.

"Preliminary investigations found that the suspect received about RM2,000 in cash in mid-December last year.

"The suspect allegedly requested about RM20,000 more from the victim,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the developments when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
