Malaysia steps up measures to safeguard energy security amid West Asia conflict

PETALING JAYA: Efforts are being intensified to strengthen energy security, including diversifying supply sources and exploring alternative routes to reduce dependence on high-risk passages such as the Strait of Hormuz, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who chaired the third National Economic Action Council meeting for 2026, said several early, proactive and swift intervention measures will be implemented immediately to ensure Malaysia’s economic resilience remains safeguarded.

The meeting examined current geopolitical developments, global economic pressures and safety implications arising from the conflict in West Asia.

“The well-being of the people, particularly in matters related to the cost of living, remains a top priority for the Madani administration.

“The situation will continue to be closely monitored, with information conveyed transparently to the public,” he said in a social media post on Wednesday (March 25).

The Prime Minister also said that calmness, discipline and a spirit of togetherness remain crucial to ensuring the country stays stable and resilient amid these challenges.
