No double standards in handcuffing Zamri, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no double standards in the handling of bringing Zamri Vinoth to court in handcuffs as the police were following set procedures.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, when asked to comment on the alleged double standards of the preacher being brought in cuffs, said the matter was handled according to established procedures.

Activist Arun Dorasamy was previously brought to court for a similar charge without handcuffs.

"When we were informed about the four arrests in Putrajaya that day, those were under Section 505 (of the Penal Code). But there is also another case related to the Sedition Act.

"So these actions are taken based on the law. The public may see them as different matters, but we enforce the law according to its proper legal provisions," he said.

He also added that certain offences were bailable and others were not and that would determine their procedures in bringing people to court.

Previously, Zamri's lawyer Muhammad Hariz Md Yusoff questioned why his client was brought to court in handcuffs and police escort while Arun did not receive the same treatment despite facing similar charges.
