Wife's request for ayam gepuk triggers violent domestic dispute

PETALING JAYA: A woman in Cheras says she was choked, slapped and threatened with a knife by her husband in an alleged case of domestic violence after she asked him to buy ayam gepuk (pounded fried chicken).

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said police received a report from a 33-year-old housewife about the incident at a flat in Sri Sabah, Cheras, on Wednesday (March 11).

“In the incident at 3.30pm, the victim had asked her husband to buy her ayam gepuk as she was craving for it.

"However, the request allegedly sparked an argument after the suspect scolded and insulted the victim, telling her to cook it herself," he said in a statement on Monday (March 16).

ACP Rosdi said that according to the complainant, the suspect then allegedly choked the victim, slapped her and punched her in the head.

"The suspect also reportedly grabbed a kitchen knife and placed it against the victim’s neck during the altercation," he said.

He added that the victim sustained injuries to the right side of her neck and later sought treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) in Cheras, before lodging the report.

ACP Rosdi said the case is being investigated and police have referred the matter to the district Criminal Investigation Department for further action.
